EU increases MRLs for metaldehyde in flowering and leafy brassicas
Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/1719 of 8 September 2023 amending Annexes II and IV to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards maximum residue levels for isoxaben, metaldehyde, Metarhizium brunneum strain Ma 43, paclobutrazol and Straight Chain Lepidopteran Pheromones (SCLP) in or on certain products
Update
The EU has increased the maximum residue levels (MRLs) for metaldehyde in flowering brassicas and leafy brassicas.
Impacted Products
broccoli, cauliflowers, chinese cabbages/pe-tsai, kales
What is changing?
The EU has increased the MRLs for metaldehyde as summarised in Table 1.
Why?
Following an application to modify the MRLs for metaldehyde on broccoli, cauliflowers, chinese cabbages/pe-tsai and kales, EFSA (2023) found no consumer health risk for these MRLs, which have therefore been accepted by the European Commission.
Timeline
The new MRLs apply from 27 September 2023.
Background
MRLs are set in accordance with the rules set out in Regulation 396/2005. For information on current MRLs for other substances, see the EU Pesticide Residues database.
