Update
The EU has reduced MRLs for triflumizole to the default limit of determination (LOD; 0.01–0.1 mg/kg) on all products, applicable from August 2023. There will be potential impacts on suppliers of tomatoes, aubergines, cucumbers, gherkins and courgettes.
Impacted Products
tomatoes, aubergines, cucumbers, gherkins, courgettes
What is changing?
The changes to MRLs are listed in Table 1.
Why?
The approval of the use of triflumizole in the EU expired on 30 June 2020 and no applications for its renewal were submitted.
Timeline
The new MRLs will apply from 12 August 2023. For products imported into the EU before that date, the old MRLs will apply.
Recommended Actions
Suppliers of tomato, aubergine, cucumber, gherkins and courgettes on which triflumizole is currently used should seek alternative substances or adapt current agricultural practices to ensure compliance by October 2023.
Background
MRLs are set in accordance with the rules set out in Regulation 396/2005. For information on current MRLs for other substances, please consult the EU Pesticide Residues database.
