EU withdraws its extension of the approval period for the active substance Bacillus pumilus QST 2808
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/1447 of 12 July 2023 amending Implementing Regulation (EU) No 540/2011 as regards the approval periods of the active substances Bacillus pumilus QST 2808 and penflufen
The European Commission has withdrawn the extension of the approval period for the active substance Bacillus pumilus QST 2808. No application was made to renew its approval. This decision has no impact on maximum residue levels (MRLs) as none are required for B. pumilus QST 2808.
What is changing?
The Commission has decided to withdraw the extension of the approval period previously granted for the active substance Bacillus pumilus QST 2808. The substance may not be used in the EU after 31 August 2024.
The approval period of the active substance B. pumilus QST 2808 was initially extended from 31 August 2024 until 31 August 2025 to allow a review to be completed before the expiry date (Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/2007). However, as no application for renewal has been submitted, no review will take place and the extension period has been withdrawn.
This Regulation enters into force on 2 August 2023.
No use of Bacillus pumilus QST 2808 will be permitted in the EU after 31 August 2024.
What are the major implications for exporting countries?
This decision will not affect exports as it has no implications for MRLs. Bacillus pumilus QST 2808 is included in Regulation 396/2005 (Annex IV) as a substance for which no MRLs are required.
This Regulation updates the list of active substances approved for use in the EU, established by Regulation 540/2011. This list can be consulted via the EU database of active substances, safeners and synergists.
