Update
The European Union (EU) has increased the maximum residue level (MRL) for aclonifen on anise/aniseed to 0.03 mg/kg.
Impacted Products
Anise/aniseed
What is changing?
The EU has increased the MRL for aclonifen on anise/aniseed to 0.03 mg/kg.
This MRL was previously set at 0.01 mg/kg, the limit of determination (LOD, the lowest level that can be detected using the most modern and reliable analytical methods).
Why?
A modification of the existing MRL was requested for anise/aniseed. The European Food Safety Authority has concluded that the proposed MRL for anise/aniseed is acceptable with regard to consumer safety (EFSA 2025).
Timeline
The new MRL is expected to apply from February 2026.
Background
MRLs are set in accordance with the rules set out in Regulation 396/2005. For information on current MRLs for other substances, please consult the EU Pesticide Residues database.
