  • Pesticide MRLs

Summary

The EU has raised the maximum residue levels (MRLs) for isofetamid on salad plants (for example, escaroles, cresses, rucola).

EU raises MRLs for isofetamid on salad plants

Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/1078 of 15 April 2024 amending Annexes II and IV to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards maximum residue levels for azoxystrobin, flonicamid, isofetamid, mefentrifluconazole, metazachlor, pyrimethanil and quartz sand in or on certain products

Update

The EU has raised the maximum residue levels (MRLs) for isofetamid on salad plants (for example, escaroles, cresses, rucola).

Impacted Products

Salad plants

What is changing?

Prior to this Regulation, the EU MRL for isofetamid on lettuces was 20 mg/kg, while the MRL on all other salad plants (including escaroles, cresses, land cresses, rocket/rucola, red mustards, and baby leaf crops) was 0.01 mg/kg. This Regulation sets the MRL for all salad plants at 20 mg/kg.

Why?

Following an application to extend the MRL for lettuces to all salad plants, EFSA concluded that the proposed amendments were acceptable for consumer safety (EFSA 2023).

Timeline

The new MRLs apply from 6 May 2024.

Background

MRLs are set in accordance with the rules set out in Regulation 396/2005. For information on current MRLs for other substances, please consult the EU Pesticide Residues database.
