What is changing?
The active substance Metarhizium brunneum strain Ma 43 will no longer have MRLs. Residues of M. brunneum strain Ma 43, whatever the quantity, will be permitted.
Why?
On 4 March 2022, the Commission renewed its approval of M. brunneum strain Ma 43 as a low-risk active substance. At that time no specific MRLs had been set, so the MRLs were automatically set to the default level of 0.01 mg/kg.
The conditions of use of M. brunneum strain Ma 43 are not expected to lead to the presence of residues in food or feed commodities that may pose a risk to consumers. Therefore there is no need to establish MRLs for this substance.
Timeline
The current MRL of 0.01 mg/kg will no longer apply from 27 September 2023. From this date, there will be no MRLs for M. brunneum strain Ma 43.
What are the major implications for exporting countries?
The removal of MRLs facilitates the use of low-risk substances such as M. brunneum strain Ma 43.
Background
MRLs are set in accordance with the rules set out in Regulation 396/2005. For information on current MRLs for other substances, please consult the EU Pesticide Residues database.
