The European Union (EU) is discussing an increase in the maximum residue level (MRL) for milbemectin on sweet cherries.

What is changing?
The EU is discussing an increase in the MRL for milbemectin on sweet cherries from the limit of determination (LOD) of 0.02 to 0.2 mg/kg. (The LOD is the lowest level that can be detected using the most modern and reliable analytical methods.)
Why?
Following an application for a change of this MRL by the producer of milbemectin, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA 2023) concluded that the proposed increase is unlikely to pose a risk to consumers’ health.
Timeline
The new MRL is expected to apply from early 2027.

What is changing and why?
The European Union (EU) is discussing an increase in the existing maximum residue level (MRL) for milbemectin on sweet cherries from 0.02 to 0.2 mg/kg.
An application for a change of this MRL by the producer of milbemectin was evaluated by the European Food Safety Authority, and the requested change was found to be safe for consumers.
Timeline
The new MRL is expected to apply from early 2027.
