EU marginally reduces MRLs for profenofos on chervil, chives, celery leaves, parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, basil and edible flowers, laurel/bay leaves and tarragon
Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/377 of 15 February 2023 amending Annexes II, III, IV and V to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards maximum residue levels for benzalkonium chloride (BAC), chlorpropham, didecyldimethylammonium chloride (DDAC), flutriafol, metazachlor, nicotine, profenofos, quizalofop-P, sodium aluminium silicate, thiabendazole and triadimenol in or on certain products
Update
The European Commission has marginally reduced the MRLs for profenofos on chervil, chives, celery leaves, parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, basil and edible flowers, laurel/bay leaves and tarragon.
Impacted Products
chervil, chives, celery leaves, parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, basil and edible flowers, laurel/bay leaves, tarragon
What is changing?
For the listed herbs and edible flowers, the MRL for profenofos is decreasing from 0.05 to 0.03 mg/kg.
Why?
On the basis of recent monitoring data submitted to EFSA, it was concluded that residues of profenofos have decreased, allowing the setting of a lower MRL. Residues of this substance will continue to be monitored and will be re-evaluated in 2030.
Timeline
New MRLs for profenofos will apply from 14 September 2023.
Background
MRLs are set in accordance with the rules set out in Regulation 396/2005. For information on current MRLs for other substances, please consult the EU Pesticide Residues database.
