What is changing?
The EU has authorised the marketing of isomaltulose powder as a novel food that can be used as a replacement for sucrose in all foods intended for the general population, excluding infant formula and follow-on formula, processed cereal-based food, and baby food.
The novel ingredient should be indicated as “isomaltulose powder” on food labelling accompanied by “isomaltulose is a source of glucose and fructose”.

This novel food will be included in the Union list of novel foods (Regulation (EU) 2017/2470).
