EU reduces MRLs for cymoxanil on grapes and spinaches
Commission Regulation (EU) 2022/1363 of 3 August 2022 amending Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards maximum residue levels for 2,4-D, azoxystrobin, cyhalofop-butyl, cymoxanil, fenhexamid, flazasulfuron, florasulam, fluroxypyr, iprovalicarb and silthiofam in or on certain products
Update
The EU has published a Regulation that reduces the MRLs for cymoxanil on grapes and spinaches.
Impacted Products
grapes, spinach
What is changing?
The amendments to existing MRLs are shown in Table 1.
In addition, the limit of determination is decreased for pulses from 0.05 to 0.01 mg/kg.
Why?
Following a review of existing MRLs for cymoxanil (EFSA 2019), EFSA recommended changes to a range of products. MRLs were reduced for grapes and spinaches, and further evaluation was required for some other commodities.
Timeline
The new MRLs will apply from 25 February 2023. Products lawfully placed on the EU market in compliance with old MRLs before 25 February may remain on the market after that date, even where not compliant with the new MRLs.
Recommended Actions
Suppliers of grapes to the EU market should check the compatibility of their current use of cymoxanil with the new reduced MRLs, and make changes to good agricultural practices where necessary.
Background
MRLs are set in accordance with the rules set out in Regulation 396/2005. For information on current MRLs for other substances, please consult the EU Pesticide Residues database.
