Update
New PDOs have been entered in the EU geographical indications register (eAmbrosia) for certain peaches, peanuts, and polyfloral honey from Türkiye, and for certain peppercorns from Indonesia.
An application has also been received from Türkiye for registration in eAmbrosia of a coffee substitute produced from seeds of terebinth or turpentine trees.
Appellations of Origin for figs and olive oil from Tunisia have been registered in the International System of Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications (Lisbon), and are now granted protection in the EU.

What is changing?
The following product names have been entered in the EU geographical indications register (eAmbrosia):
- ‘Osmaniye Yer Fıstığı’ as a protected designation of origin for a type of peanut (Arachis hypogaea subsp. hypogaea var. hypogaea) produced within seven districts of Osmaniye Province, Türkiye (C/2024/817)
- ‘Bursa Şeftalisi’ as a protected designation of origin for fresh fruit of peach (Prunus persica) varieties ‘J.H. Hale’ and ‘Glohaven’ from the geographical area delimited for its production in the villages of certain districts of Bursa province, Türkiye (C/2024/1346)
- ‘Bingöl Balı’ as a protected designation of origin for polyfloral honey from all villages and towns within Bingöl province, Eastern Anatolia, Türkiye (C/2024/1595)
- ‘Lada Putih Muntok’ as a protected designation of origin for peppercorns from Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Indonesia (C/2024/1908).
The following application for registration in eAmbrosia has been received by the European Commission and published in the Official Journal of the European Union:
- ‘Gaziantep Menengiç Kahvesi/ Gaziantep Melengiç Kahvesi’, a coffee substitute produced from roasted and ground seeds of terebinth or turpentine trees (Pistacia terebinthus) that grow in mountainous regions of Gaziantep province, Türkiye (C/2024/4505).
The following appellations have been registered in the Lisbon System and notified to the EU on 27 September 2023, and are now granted protection in the EU:
- ‘Figues de Djebba’ as Appellation of Origin for figs originating from Tunisia (C/2023/431)
- ‘Huile d’Olive Téboursouk’ for olive oil originating from Tunisia (C/2023/430).

Why?
No reasoned statement of opposition under Regulation (EU) 1151/2012 has been received within the relevant time period against the products entered in eAmbrosia (peaches, peanuts, and polyfloral honey from Türkiye; peppercorns from Indonesia).
The Commission did not receive any opposition against EU protection of Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications for figs and olive oil from Tunisia that were entered in the Lisbon System within 4 calendar months after publication in the Official Journal of the European Union (published on 20 October 2023).
Statements of opposition against registration of the name ‘Gaziantep Menengiç Kahvesi/ Gaziantep Melengiç Kahvesi’ from Türkiye can still be lodged with the Commission within 3 calendar months from publication in the Official Journal on 11 July 2024.

Recommended Actions
Objections against a name to be entered in the EU geographical indications register (eAmbrosia) can be communicated to the European Commission within 3 months from the date of publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
Objections against protection within the territory of the European Union of a name registered in WIPO’s LisbonSystem can be communicated to the Commission within 4 months from the date of publication in the Official Journal.

European Commission
Applications for registration of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) received by the European Commission are published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
If no statement of opposition has been received by the Commission within a 3 month period, the PDO/PGI is entered in the EU geographical indications register (eAmbrosia) and granted protection in the EU (Regulation 2024/1143).
World Intellectual Property Organization
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) notifies the European Union of entries in its International System of Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications (Lisbon) in accordance Regulation 2019/1753.
These notices are then published in the Official Journal of the European Union. Stakeholders can oppose the protection of a name within EU territory by lodging an objection with the European Commission within 4 calendar months from the date of publication, by emailing AGRI-GEOGRAPHICAL-INDICATIONS@ec.europa.eu.
