Summary

Applications for PDO status have been received from Türkiye for table olive grown in Aydın province, and from Indonesia for granulated coconut sugar.

Additions to the geographical indications (GI) register of the European Union (eAmbrosia): a new PGI has been added for a hard full-fat cheese produced in Bosnia and Herzegovina (“Livanjski sir”), and a new PDO has been added for a coffee substitute produced from roasted and ground seeds of terebinth or turpentine trees from Türkiye (“Gaziantep Menengiç Kahvesi / Gaziantep Melengiç Kahvesi”).

Update

Applications for PDO status have been received from Türkiye for table olive grown in Aydın province, and from Indonesia for granulated coconut sugar.

What is changing?

The following applications for registration as PDOs in the EU have been received and published in the Official Journal of the European Union:

  • “Aydın Memecik Zeytini”, a table olive from the Memecik variety of olive trees (Olea europaea) grown in Aydın province in Türkiye (C/2024/6963)
  • “Gula Kelapa Kulonprogo Jogja”, granulated coconut sugar made from coconut sap derived from coconut plants grown in the Kulonprogo Regency in Indonesia (C/2024/7046)

The following product names have been added to the EU GI register (eAmbrosia):

  • “Livanjski sir” as a PGI for a hard full-fat cheese made from pasteurised, thermalised, or raw cow's milk, sheep's milk, or their mixtures, which is produced in the traditional area that includes the municipalities of Livno, Tomislavgrad, Kupres, Glamoč, Grahovo, and Drvar in Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • “Gaziantep Menengiç Kahvesi / Gaziantep Melengiç Kahvesi” as a PDO for a coffee substitute produced from roasted and ground seeds of terebinth or turpentine trees from Türkiye.

No reasoned statement of opposition has been received within the relevant time period against the registration of “Livanjski sir” as a PGI and “Gaziantep Menengiç Kahvesi / Gaziantep Melengiç Kahvesi” as a PDO in eAmbrosia.

  • “Aydın Memecik Zeytini” for a table olive grown in Aydın province in Türkiye – opposition may be lodged with the European Commission until 14 February 2025
